CATHAR COUNTRY - REGION TO VISIT
From the Mediterranean Sea to the Pyrenean channel, from Massif Central up to the Country Lauragais, you're at the heart of a historical and natural heritage.
The Aude department offers an exceptional pallet of landscapes, natural sites: sandy beaches, salt lakes, torrents in the Aude valley, forests, shelfs, gorges, natural cellars. So many marvels all around of which you can take advantage of activities all the year(hikes, water sports like windsurfing or canyoning, cycle touring or mountain bikeurisme ou VTT, speleology ...).
You'll discover the medieval castles, these "Citadels of the dizziness", testimonies of Cathar epic, abbeys and Romanic convents, but also the Carcassonne medieval city, Narbonne the Roman, the prehistoric caves which mark out the routes of discovery for the lovers of the history.
You can also stroll under the hundred-year-old shades of the Canal du Midi, or choose to practise all the activities in mountain as in front the sea, in great natural decorations! The Aude depertment offers all the landscapes and the multiple possibilities!

THE CANAL DU MIDI AND THE ROBINE
Built in 17th century by Pierre-Paul RIQUET to link the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea, it runs through the Aude department from east to west.
